fliptops replacements

What's about the replacement parts sold by fliptops?

I think soon I'll have some money to send my VT22 with Master Volume to a tech for changing tubes/capacitors because it still has all the original parts inside.

I think for capacitors I have to go with the second v4 kit (mid'70s - '80), right?
Eventually could I put on the first kit?

What kit you choose depends on the values in your amp. In V4's, there are a pair of filter caps that had different values. I forget which two exactly, off the top of my head.

Realistically, either would kit should work, but most people go with the fliptop kits for an easy and direct replacement.

The big differences would be getting two 100x40 caps (version 2 on fliptops) or one 70x40 and one 70x40x40 (version 1).

Take a look at the two cans in the middle of the chassis and decide from there. Also consider skipping using the mediocre and pricey cans used in those kits and look at your options for using high-quality mod caps, for less money.

Another option is to buy everything separate and build the kit yourself from online vendors. Fliptops is pretty marked up but just really convenient. Take a look at parts express for cabinet stuff.

I really like fliptops, but some of those kits are pretty spendy. I tend to up the value of the filter caps for the screen supply to 100uf (same as the main reservoir cap) if you do that, you can use a 100x100 can a 50x50uf can and then a single axial 100uf cap that needs to be mounted inside. basically exactly where the 40x40uf cap is mounted by the power transformer.

by using those values the amp is happier, and the parts cheaper. you can use all F&T and they are way cheaper than those CE caps. better quality too.
