'63 Reverberocket

Hi, I'm a new Ampeg owner - was around many in '60s-'70s [before we thought such things "vintage"] but never owned one myself til just this week.
I've now got a '63 [per s/n].

I solicit this group's wisdom on the ins & outs of this amp. A search for threads here that might offer insight turned up very little.

It appears all-original except for the speaker. I like how it sounds, appreciate the modest volume & weight, & anticipate using it as an alternate & complementary sound to my 6V6 brown & blackface Fender amps.

Hey DR,

The original reverberockets are really great amps. I've worked on a few of them and really like them.

I will say that stock I find the design to be really dark/lacking in high frequencies. You should have a schematic glued to the back panel of the amplifier, I"m looking at the schematic for the R12-Rb which is the version of the amp with the 7591s but for all practical purposes the amps should be identical aside from the power tubes.

C19 is a .01uf capacitor that goes from pin 2 of V3 to ground, essentially dumping high frequencies. I really don't understand why ampeg did this... it sounds really dark. I tend to remove that cap.

but if you like the way it sounds now, perhaps someone already did this, or maybe you don't mind it.

Thanks, Hangman. I have't opened it up yet but anticipate that cap's been removed. It has a goodly amount of "spank".

I'm not familiar enough with the "octal sound" to comment on why/how my amp sounds as it does. I'm just thrilled that it sounds good to me!
