4 ohm 8 ohm cabs

Hi all, the ohm selector switch on the rear of my bass head can be set to either 4ohm or 2ohm, self explanatory. 
If I used a 4ohm cab and an 8ohm cab, would I need to switch it to 2ohms or would it damage the head?
