I find it easier to reuse the same diameter power cable and strain relief that the amp came with. Too many techs will enlarge the hole in the chassis which isn't ideal. It is fine to stick with 18 gauge wire. Even the SVT used 18GA wire.
Check your amp first just to be sure but Ampeg used a Heyco SR 6W-1 1184 strain relief bushing on many of their amps. Heyco is still in business and you can order a sample from them if you need just one. I buy cable from Home Depot that matches the original and then add a black plug. The cable is General Cable, Carol Brand, part number 02602, SJOOW, #18/3, 300V, 10A, UL/CSA, rubber jacket, 0.3" outer diameter, made in the USA. The white lettering on the cable comes off with a solvent.
