Very interesting and thank you so much for the info. The speakers that were in it were 8ohm and were wired in series.. So it was running at 16 ohms (?). With the replaced OT being a reissue Super Reverb (thanks for that clarification!), I guess it should have been wired for an 8ohm load. That pretty much eliminates the stock speakers and any other 8ohm speakers I have lying around.
However, I do have an early 80's JCM 800 2x12 cab that is loaded with a pair of Celestion Rola g12-65's that are 16 ohm's. I just inherited the cab, but the speakers sound great and seem to have great reviews online as good Celestions from that time period. Wondering how they would sound in the Ampeg...
I'm in the middle of moving, so I have to wait a couple weeks before I can do any speaker swaps.
