Ampeg Reverberocket 2 GS12R
#1
New to the forum and could really use some help. I have a few questions regarding my ampeg reverberocket 2.

First, the bass content of this amp seems pretty low. I remember reading that these are pretty warm bass heavy amps. I'm thinking mine has something wrong with it- the bass control does work- but there is a very slight difference between turning the control all the way down versus all the way up (even with treble set in different positions)

What capacitor could I try replacing to help this out?

Next,
I cannot figure out how these two gold caps(in picture) fit into the schematic. they are soldered onto the cap can and power tube sockets. Maybe they were added to aid a failing can cap? Id like to just replace the can cap but im not sure how to solder it all up. does anyone have a close up picture of their cap can wiring?

Reverb-
the reverb on this amp is super bright. i know there's a capacitor that is in control of this. ANy ideas which one it is on the board? with all the different models and schematics i'm having trouble following any one schematic.

any help would be greatly appreciated! If you cant help but know where I could post to receive some, id be grateful for some direction!

The bass content shouldn't be low. What kind of shape is the speaker in? A lot of times I"ve seen some pretty screwed up speakers that cause poor low end response.
Those gold caps are not factory. looks like somebody put them in in parallel with the originals. You should replace all of the electrolytic capacitors, Also the 1 watt 470 ohm resistor thats right next to the 2 watt 1k resistor in the picture that has the Gold caps, should be replaced. replace it with a 2 Watt.

check the capacitor that is next to the 10 Watt 140Ohm resistor in that picture too. It looks like its been replaced. it should be a 25uf you could boost it up to 50f if you really wanted, but I think 25uf is fine. sometimes people decide that they should put a 220uf or something goofy in there, this is not a good idea.

I wouldn't start trouble shooting "problems" with the amp when there are clearly things that aren't quite right about the amp to begin with.

Im back to it!!!

Thanks for the reply!

Can I use a 5w Wirewound to replace the failing 470ohm 1 watt? I can never tell whether its cool to use certain types of resistors in different situations. I have a 2 watt metal oxide in 560ohm on hand as well would that work?

Besides all the electrolytic caps are there any other caps I should upgrade in here before moving along? (are illinois capacitors that bad)

I was thinking about taking out all the old ceramics and replacing them with polyester film types- and silver mica for the one 250pf I see in there.

Any other resistors or caps I should soup up to make them less likely to fail in future or less noise?

I had seen a mod to take some highs out of the reverb decay around the net but cant find it now- anyone seen that? this reverb with a strat and my bright speaker is too much!
