crackle in my reverberocket 2
#1
i have new tubes and a new speaker, a grounded cord and new caps in the power supply. it crackled with the old tubes and speaker too.
makes a crackle if you strum hard; otherwise sounds fine. used to crackle once or twice on warmup or the first few strums. now it crackles often.

I wonder if there is a bad connection, or cracked solder joint.

If you pull the chassis out and use a sharpie or some other non-conductive item to flex the PCB a little bit you could test that theory.

I suppose it could also be a wonky coupling cap... but I typically don't see the caps in amps from that era of Ampeg fail like that.

i had it apart yesterday. solder joints look good and didnt crackle when i pushed on them w/ rubber drumstick.
it was nice and clean and neat inside.
i've noticed the crackle is worse when plugged into the accordion input.
if you play an open E, it will crackle until the volume fades a bit.
